back firing ranger

just bought a 94 ranger 2.3 runs great until i let off the gas at hiway speed (55mph or below) sure hope someone can[img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_cry.gif[/img]

no exhaust leaks the backfire is comeing out the tailpipe butonly when i let off the gas could it be a warped valve,but ihave no miss or skip [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_cry.gif[/img]

A small exhaust leak close to the motor will do just that but it might be something else.,

block off the tailpipe with a rag while it's at an idle and see if it's leaking somewhere.

Check your EGR valve, it can cause a backfire if not functioning properly.

Thanks guys for your help but it has devaloped a smokein problem so i guess ill just pull the head[img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif[/img]

I had the exact same problem, whenever I let off the gas it would backfire, and loud. It turns out it was the timing, I advanced it a little bit and it took care of it, smooth as ever now. I don't know if this is whats wrong with yours but just thought it was worth a shot.
