Wanted opinions of reliability of 96 Mercury Cougars

I am looking at a 96 Mercury Cougar w/4.6 with less than 50,000 miles. Does anyone have any personal experience with these cars? What reliability issues do they have, if any?
Thanks,
Kywookie

On the whole, I'd say they're pretty damm nice cars. Good power, fair mileage, and ride nice.
If it's been maintained, (i.e. oil changes, etc, etc), it should be a good vehicle to have. Nice looking cars for sure.

No major problems I can think of offhand. Lots of leaky diffy axle output seals,............

I had a 97 Tbird with that motor, put about 110,000 trouble free miles on it. Great car, one of the best Fords I've owned overall.

Thanks for the info. I figured they would be pretty reliable, with the 4.6 anyway. The 3.8 still had the head gasket issues. It looks as though I won't be getting the car in question however. A car dealer had it on eBay and he wouldn't provide the name or contact info for the 1 previous owner so I am not messing with it, even if it does seem like a cream puff (or especially since it seems like a cream puff)! The search continues.......
