400M bellhousing = 460 ??!??
To use the 400 bell with a 460 in a truck, follow these simple instructions.
Make sure your 460 is internally balanced.
Run a 390 Flywheel, but call L&L enterprises and order their ring gear. The 390 ring gear will eat starters.
Run a 400 diaphram clutch. Need it to be able to fit it all in the shallower bell housing.
A 400 pilot bushing should fit the crank, but there are some 460 cranks that wont accept the pilot bushing for whatever reason.
Either a 400 or 460 starter will work, your choice.
You will need the spacer plate that came with the bellhousing, but you must enlarge the hole the crank goes through, as the 400 crank flange is of smaller diameter.
You will also need the clutch equilizer bar pivot ball that bolts to the bellhousing, should come off the truck you get the rest of the parts from.
If your 460 is not internally balanced, I know of no cheap way to make it work, Call L&L and order their complete kit.
Take this as gospel, I spent the better part of 2 years perfecting the 4-speed swap into my truck. Unfortunately my 3+1 OD tranny has just bit the big one, blew first gear out. If your going to do this swap, have a nice NP435 ready to go in if that 3+1 fails.
