A couple of questions regarding Broncos...

I have an 1989 Bronco, and it needs a new engine, I have never messed around with disassembling a fuel injection system before, and I need to take off the intake obviously to pull out and put in the new engine. My question is, what do I need to do? I know the system develops pressure while working, do I have to de-pressurize the lines, and if so how? And when re-installing it, do I re-pressurize it, or does the fuel pump do that? It's not going to be any kind of performance upgrade, just a good solid rebuilt unit put in to replace the current engine doing a wonderful impression of the Exxon Valdez.
The second question is also in regards to a Bronco, I want to swap out the worn out 302 and drop in a 351W I have that was just recently rebuilt. I know the oil pan from the 302 will not work on the 351, obviously, but where do I acquire a new (want to make sure the rails are all straight, and not messed up from over tightened bolts) oil pan for this swap? I also need one that has a dipstick in the pan, the 351W I have has it's dipstick in the timing cover, and I know that just won't work for a rear sump oilpan. Thanks for any help guys, you all have always been good at giving me good help before, and I hope you all can help again!
Mike

HEY,
I JUST GOT AN ENGINE FROM AN 89 BRONCO TO REBUILD FOR MY 69 MUSTANG. IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A 351W, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE A 302 TO ME. COULD YOU TELL ME THE ENGINE CODE ON YOUR VALVE COVERS ON YOUR 302? MAYBE I COULD USE THAT # TO CROSS REFERENCE MINE. I ALSO HAVE THE OIL PAN YOU NEED, CHEAP. DO YOU NEED EXHAUST MANIFOLDS?

RSTMAIL,

You're not going to be able to tell too easily from the valve covers, they are the same exact thing for both the 302 and the 351, unless there may be an identifying sticker for emissions like on some older models, which mine does not have. The best way to tell is to look at the intake manifold, if it's about 8 inches or so across, it's a 302, 11 or so inches, and you got a 351.
If it's from an 89, on the top section of the intake manifold, it will say 5.0EFI on it. If you have the intake off, check the lifter valley, I have a had a few engines where in the valley it was cast in as what the engine size was, either 302 or 351.
I wish I had a more straightfroward answer for you, but that's all I have at this time. And about the oil pan, I really want to get ahold of a brand new, unused unit, is yours brand new? If it is, we'll talk. Good luck on finding out which engine you have.
Mike
