tremec 3550

hey guys,

I am planning a tremec 3550 swap into my 71 torino gt with a 351c. I found a tremec with a bellhousing at Lonestarperformance.com. for 1350.00. Is this a good price? Also will I need a spacer for the tranny. and will the tranny fit without any mods to the tranny tunnel? Also is there anything else I should watch out for? Thanks for you time

Nick

That's not a bad price with a bellhousing. I guess you're using an old toploader type bellhousing if you need a spacer??

Try the search option on the tunnel question. Its been answered a few time for probably every car out there.

My two cents would be while you're doing this, scrap the old linkage style clutch and get a hydraulic. More compact than any other type and will ease any clearance problems with headers, even if the headers are for autos.

Do some thinking before you just " buy a Tremec".
There is 4 versions available for the sb Ford.Standard Tremec or the TKO, TKO being the stronger one.
Another item is the 5th gear ration, you can have both in either 0.68 or 0.82.I recommend the 0.82 for more fun, 0.68 is really more like a real overdrive with the expense of acceleration.

Re: tremec 3550

I'm running a Tremec 3550 TKO in mine w/Lakewood Bellhousing. I have the (.82) 5th gear ratio. With 26" rear tall tires, 3:55 gearing it runs right at 2000rpms @ 60mph.
