Ranger Swap - 3.0 to 4.0

I have a 3.0 in my 93 Ranger. The 6 cylinders that year came with either a 3.0 or a 4.0. Can the 4.0 drop right in without too much trouble?

Did they use the same transmission? Suspension?

I have a 302, but don't want to put it in. I don't want to change the transmission.

If the transmission needs to be changed for a 4.0, I'll just rebuild the 3.0

Thanks... I found this quickly browsing through:

But, I was going to buy a 4.0 to drop in, but just found out they are close to $2000. This is my daily driver and can't afford the downtime like I can on the Mustang if I swap engines.

I think I'm going to buy a 3.0 (under $1300) and swap it... I should be able to do that in a weekend. Plus it will come with a 7 year/70K mile warrantee. [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif[/img]
