Mighty Demon 850...

When I was looking for a carb for the 65'... I really wanted a Demon Carb.... I pretty much had my mind made up, I was getting a Demon Carb.... Along with everything else... I did some research... I found out from reasearch that Demon Carbs tend to load up at idle and alot of people were having problems trying to stop it from loading up... From what I read online, there tech support line is almost non exsitant, and if you talked to someone they were basically just pricks.... Demon carbs and Barry Grant are one in the same....

I ended up getting a custom one done by Biggs.... They were about the same money as a Holly HP 4150.... The Bigs runs flawless.... Also it just looks so SWEET!!!!

The Demon's look pretty cool also... But after all the problems that I read about online it really turned me off.... Maybe they fixed the problem by now, who knows... Dont remember off the top of my head what the problem was... That was about a year ago or so....

Good Luck, Billy

I've been working with Speed Demon carbs lately and I have had good tech support when I needed it. Most of the early bugs have been worked out of their carbs and I'm seeing some good results lately. The Speed Demons do tend to have a rich idle because they set them up for cammed motors, but it can be worked out with some minor tuning. The Holley HP series carbs are a great choice too but are more expensive than Speed Demons. You can find them used going on Ebay for around $300 from time to time.

I LOVE MY DEMON!!! I have the 750 Mighty Demon. Once I did a few adjustments, it worked perfectly. I have had tech support when I needed it. Sometimes I had to wait on hold, but I did get it.

Out of the box my Demon did load up at idle. But that's because my power valve was too big and it was dumping fuel in. It was meant for a car that made more vacuum. It was a 6.5. I switched to a 3.5 powervalve and the problem went away. The loading up may have been due to jetting too, but I doubt it. I also changed the jets and it works great now. Best carburetor I ever had.

Just my two cents.

In my opinion the Demon carburetors rock when tuned and built by a specialist. I agree that out of the box it's a 50/50 chance on getting one to run flawlessly without tune, but what does install these days without tune? Nothing

On another note, anyone who claims to be a skilled Holley tuner can easily transpose the skill to Demons as well. They are functionaly the same. Anyone here can call me up for Demon's tech line. I would be more than happy to assist you (No I don't work for Demon)

I have a mighty demon 650 on my small block 310 cu in. I'm very happy with it. If you're planning to go with a mighty demon then I will pass on to you something that i was told that helped a lot. The carbs are very sensitive to adjustments. Much more so than regular holleys. That's why people have trouble with the tuning. Use very samll increments on the mixture screws etc. If you're used to using half turns on holleys go down to 1/4 or even 1/8 turns because it makes a BIG difference!
