4spd AOD to 351C?

I found a 1990 4 speed AOD linked to a 5.0 HO motor in a 1990 Lincon Mark VII LSC at the junk yard, and was wondering if it will bolt to a 351 Cleveland in a 1970 Mustang Fastback. Any input would be great.

The 351C has the same rear pattern as the 5.0. The flexplate will be different - I think an FMX flexplate will work, but I'm not sure about that. The AOD converter is a different style and has a different bolt pattern than a C4. Here is a link to Dan Jones' dissertation on the subject: http://realbig.com/detomaso/1998-02/266.html

fort he flexplate, get one from summit for a 351w with 164 teeth and an 11.4" converter bolt circle. after that it is a bolt on deal. you will need to get the throttle valve cable from lokar to make the thing work right, make sure the throttle pressure is properly adjusted as you WILL burn up the tranny in short order otherwise.

The AOD does not have a removable bellhousing and I am worried that it would not bolt up to the C. Is it the same bellhousing as the Pan fill C-4?

Yep - 6 bolt pattern just like all the W series engines.

Which is the same as the C....Right? Because the 302 bellhousing I had with my old motor did not bolt to the C, and it was the 6 bolt pattern...or maybe it was the flywheel that was different...Or the 302 bellhousing wouldn't clear the C flywheel...I think that was the problem.

Prolly the 302 bell wouldnt clear the cleve flywheel. I ran into that once myself. You should be good to go so long as ya get the right flywheel.

289-302-351W-351C have the same pattern. The 302's typically came with a 157 tooth auto flex plate and the C with a 164 (?), so a "big bell" C4 (pan fill, I think?) would fit on the stock flexplate and the more common smaller bell will not fit over the flexplate. I believe the AOD uses the bigger plate. And, the motor plate will need to be from an AOD.

I noticed the trans had no vaccume connections, just electrical. So how would I get it to work with the vaccume like with the C4? Is there some sort of modulator I need?
