TF Twisted Wedge porting tips?

I suspect this might belong, or eventually end up in the home porting forum, but there's NOTHING going on over there, so I thought I'd start it here.

I'm thinking of getting bare, Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads next year to replace my home ported GT40P's. Motor is a stock shortblock 302, with an E303 in it.

What I'd like to do is work them over mildly, no cutter work, just sanding rolls before I assemble them with better springs and hardware than what they come with assembled from TF.

I'd like any advice from those familiar with box stock TF heads and the areas that need the most work, and what I stand to gain. Any suggestions on springs, hardware, and valves would be also be great.

I know the AFR's are great and everything, but I know I can make up the difference between the CNC job on the 165's with a little work on a set of Wedges, and save a few hundred in the process.

I have all the tools, mandrels, 80 grit rolls, and experience left over from the work on my "P"s and I simply don't want to bolt a set of box stock heads on my car.

The TFS heads are pretty good out of the box. I would guess some clean up and light blending and polishing, along with some light valves, the right spring for your cam, and a good valve job could would net a bit more power. Then there is the satifaction of knowing you worked on them yourself. The head guide in the tech department has some good data showing the AFR and TFS are very close in flow. In the project cars section check out Green Machine II. They put a set of lightly ported TFS heads on the green LX and went into the 12's with it, stock cam if I recall correctly. Hopefully there are some TFS porters out there who can help you out more than I.

My best suggestion is to stay VERY basic with your work. Avoid opening up the pushrod restriction area at all as it is plenty big to start with. Just massage the bowl area some but don't open it up under the valve as people tend to get carried away and make the venturi too big there. Absolutely don't mess with the chamber as touching it will more than likely hurt it. Smooth the intake runners with a nice fresh 80 grit in each runner or use one or two 60 grit rolls to cover all the intakes. I prefer a 120 grit on the exhaust to finish.

Sounds like keeping things very basic and just cleaning up the ports is the best way to go.
