Port Volume (Home Ported D0OE)

I'm curious what kind of intake and exhaust port volumes you guys are coming up with when you port your D0OE heads.

I haven't taken the exhaust volumes yet (maybe tonight) but my intake port volume is around 137cc with the stock valve, in a nearly finished state. I have 1.94" valves to throw in, so I assume that the larger seat cut and bowl will up that number a few cc.
My intakes started around 120cc as cast.

If you have any flow numbers to throw out here, I'd love see them too.

Well, they aren't AFRs... but I think I've opened them up in the the right areas. I have completely removed even the faintest remnance of a pushrod bulge from both sides of the ports, and installed sleeves with one flat side to straigten the left intake wall. I have cut the valve guides way down, and profiled them. The only place I think there is anything left to work on is the bowls. I want to have the seats cut for the bigger valves before I go completely crazy in there. Although it sounds small, the ports really do look great (in my opinion) and should flow much better than stockers.

I got my 289 heads out to 155cc on the intakes, 55 on the exhaust. They were pretty much maxed out on useful port volume.

These are generally smaller in stock form than D0OE 351W heads. I didn't measure mine, but I had read 289 heads start around 126cc... and I removed a LOT of cast iron out of these things! The bowls are very, very, very thin in many places. One intake bowl actually cracked, causing the engine to hydraulic. I fixed things, and epoxied the port, and it ran trouble free for several years after that.

Good Luck!

Tracy Blackford (aka blkfrd) has a set of home ported W heads that flow some good numbers.

Don't know if he did a check on the volume though.

You might PM him if he doesn't show up here.

Wow 155... that is pretty big for stock heads.

Like I said, the bowls could use a bit more work, however I'm not looking for that kind of trouble... I would like to maximize the potential of these heads... but I also want to keep this thing problem free. I'm guessing here, but I think I'll reach a max of 145cc on the intakes when I'm done. I'll check out an exhaust port tonight after a little more grinding in there.

After a little more work on the exhaust port bowls, I checked their volume. I have 49cc. I think I could do more to smooth out the side of the port with the emissions bump.

Not to knock your diligence but I'm just used to the cavernous 4V heads(280cc).

I did a search on blkfrds posts and came up with some info:

http://www.fordmuscle.com/phpBB/view...84&forum=1

He has his flow numbers in this thread. In another thread he stated his intake port volume at 165cc. Didn't find anything about the exhaust, but by the pics and flow numbers it has obviously been opened up real good.

Good luck.
