Need to know if 76 Ford 400 can be bolted up to a 1962 Ford truck Borgwarner T-98 4 speed.

OK the heading pretty much says it. I have a friend who has a 1976 Ford 400, he is going to put it into a 1962 Ford 4x4, he wants to keep the factory 4 speed trans in it now, can this combo be made to work. He says the trans is a T-98 4 speed, he cant find a bellhousing. If there is one what flywheel and clutch setup would, could he use.

If all that was too much for you, riddle me this, is there a C-6 trans that would bolt up to the 400 that he could use in the truck if the he cant get the 4 speed to work.

Please dont ask me why he is using the 400, or ask why he doesnt put a 460 in it, I dont know. He just needs help with this so he can get it running.

Thank you

Don't know diddly about the 4 speed deal, but any big block C6 will bolt to a 400. The 351M, 400 and the 385 series engines have the same bellhousing pattern. Unless he has one of the oddball 400's with a small block 6 bolt pattern.

I have already quized him about other combo`s that would be much better, he seems to have his heart set on this 400 for some reason.

Lots of pickups had 4 speeds behind 351M/400 engines but I'm not sure if the bellhousing to trans bolt pattern would be the same to fit that older trans. A good salvage yard will have a Hollander Interchange Manual that should tell whether or not the two would fit together.
