Exhaust H-pipe location

62 Comet with 302 and C4auto...I'm looking to put headers on it but my real question is where should an H or X pipe be placed?

I know there is a more scientific way, but the general area is under the rear 1/2 of the tranny, about where the driveline slides in to the trans. My 2.5" "X" pipe is under my driveshaft loop, about 6" rearward of the front yoke.

Although some people will do little tricks like paint the pipse and look to see where the burning stops (or someting like that) it usually ends up being where ever ti fits.

What is the advantage of an X or H pipe or one over the other? If it is power approx. how much of a gain?

The x pipe is all the rage these days....just having an exhaust crossover is good becuase it theoricially balances back pressure and helps scavanging....the x pipe has been made popular in recent years because its a nascar set up....

HP aside, the x pipe produces a very nice tone in the exhasut system and makes a car sound quite mean.
