Cleaning up ceramic headers

I dragged a rag across one of my header pipes while it was hot and melted it, now I've got a burnt spot on my brand new ceramic headers. How do I remove it?

Maybe a paste of baking soda and water and let it sit? There has to be some trick that is used even on cookware that might work. I just don't see the baking soda thing working when it would have to stay wet unless you wrap a wet rag around it to keep it wet. Not sure if that really works either, it was just one of those helpful hint type things for burnt stuff in pots and pans.

How have you been Kevin????

Dont really know what to tell ya on that one.... Maybe call the manufacture... Or call one of the coating places directly, you may get a better answer from the coaters themselves.....

Good hearing from you again, keep pluggin away at the car... Spring is around the corner... LOL!!!!

I've been doing great, how are you guys doin'? Work finaly picked up, and now I can put a few somolians into the ol'Ford. The stain isn't anything major, it's on the #4 tube and it's just a small one. I'm gonna call a coating shop and see what they say. How 'bout that weather out there? Yikes

Cleaning up ceramic headers

Kevin....

I did the same thing on my Cobra header and just simply went out and ran it hard enough to get it REAL HOT!!! That burned the dark residue right off!!!

Try that before you go scraping and rubbing!! Most synthetic fabrics melt below 400* and vaporize above 600*!!!

My headers came with some directions for cleanning , I believe it said to use some XXXX steel wool. I will try to find them and repost.

This may sound stupid, but I use to be a certified Tilesetter by trade. We use to use a diluted mixture of muratic acid and water to get rid of a lot of metal marks, discolouration, etc. May be this work in your application?
