Trip up the hill

Ok guys took my truck up north this weekend about 100 miles. Elevation was from about 1200 - 6000. Yeah on the holley truck avenger. Well in the valley ran nice. Pulled good up the hills at about 70mph till i had to give it more gas. Then it bogged and bogged and and i slowed. So i pulled it in 2nd and it sputtered a bit then gained 15 mph in a couple seconds, shifted in 3rd and bogged again. On the level ran good. I got a 6.5 PV with 15.5 - 16 " vaccume. ??? what do you think
Also i just replaced my 60 amp alt. with a HD 100 amp. around town i can see the diff. in my gauge. Well on my way up with the lights on and the electric fan OFF. my lights dimmed and surged all the way up. only at 3000rpm's or so. whats with that? tnanks in advance.
ohh yeah the trip was a blast got real muddy but not stuck, the gears and lockers go in thursday. then i should see a diff. in bottom end

Alt belt loose and fuel pump not working under load? Thought I'd take a guess.

Trip up the hill

Went up to Pine from Mesa. Friends cabin. Then up the rim. Still had some snow so I did what I built the truck for "my toy" Did real good in the gooey stuff alot in 2wd too just keep moving.
Float level down Ill have to check that. Maybe im smoking something but could it be too much fuel? Losing vaccume under a load? Wrong power valve? I will check the fuel level today and post.

Just a thought, but if there's anyway you can hook up a vac gauge that you can read while you're driving and go try and repeat those same conditions, it would really help you out I think. I learned more about how my carb works when I did that than from reading all the holley books I could find. Check out what kind of vac you're pulling when you start having problems, and you'll have a better idea of how well that power valve works in your carb, and how well your carb fits your motor.

Or call BIGS. I'm pimpin his stuff now. Honestly, though, it seems like you've had so much trouble with that carb you might want to throw something different on there and see what's what.
