need help with holley 750 mech sec

does this sound like a vapor lock situation.start car from cold and fuel pressure is steady at 8 ussing carter meckanical pump.aafter it gets real warm on warm day fuel press fluctuates down to 4 when idling.has bad surge at 2500 but still has fuel pressure.also why would runnin car on warm day then shuttin down. squirters on primary are pulsing fuel for about 30 minites with engine off.this is pro form main body with new nitrphyl floats and viton .120 needle and seats.are .120 seats overkill for 331 making 400 flywheel hp?i think carter hi flow pump is POS anyone else?

Regarding your Carter pump, I've been using the same model for 3 years without problems. Might check your spacer composition and timing, are you running hot? What's operating temp?

stoker:

Contact Marty Brown at www.quickfueltechnology.com

They are the guys that put together the Proform stuff.

I suspect you may be on the edge of being lean.

How are you jetted? Have you done anything with the high speed air bleeds?

BTW, I'm using the Carter pump and no problems.

Sounds like you're perking coffee. Is there any kind of heat insulator under the carb? Or does it set directly on the manifold.

Along this line, can a 1/2 inch phenolic spacer help or is there a minimum thickness to ensure a decrease in the transfer of heat?

How does phenolic compare to the Moroso laminated wood spacer?

1/2" phenolic open spacer has been working well for me. I'd go to a 1" if I had room.

I like the Moroso 1" plastic spacers. When we ran an Edelbrock on the 302 with a stock cast iron Ford intake, we had to add a metal insulator plate under the carb to keep it from killing the spacer. On aluminium intakes, I block the crossover and just run the spacer.
