Picking up my 347 today

Hey guys,

I just joined recently and have been a long time classic mustang owner. My current car is a 1966 coupe that is in the paint shop. The 347 short block is due in today and I can't wait to get it on the engine stand and prepped for installation. This engine is forged 10.5:1 (JE) with Victor Jr heads and forged scatt 9000 crank, H beams and a Lunati Roller Cam 238/244 dur with 539/544 lift 112 center. The cam is a nitrous grind for the 125hp direct port system I employ in a vintage Eldelbrock Torquer intake. The ceramic headers and flowmasters exit all the noise. The old 289 in the car ran 8.11's in the 1/8 at 85mph and I am hoping to get into the low to mid 7.00's??? The suspension is 9" with 3.89's, moser 31 axels and track loc with subframe connectors and shelby traction bars. I run a 26X8.5 slick with 4.5 backspacing and it fits great (I hope it still hooks up).

I have a couple of questions for the masses:
1) I can not seem to find a good aftermarket motor mount for the car (needs to be the saddle type).
2) I have 1.85 60ft times with the old engine. (sucks) Prior to paint I went through about 3 hours of pinion angle adjustment. The gauge showed about a 6 deg nose up condition (seems very high). After adding 4 deg of plates and playing with the u-bolt adjustment I am settled in at 2 deg nose up and 3 deg transmission down. I think this will be okay but I have read a little about performance setups having the rear end preloaded with a 0 deg pinion angle so that on acceleration it will come up to 2-3 deg and align with the transmission for max HP to the ground???

pics and times to come.

I think stock replacement motor mounts will be fine, I would only suggest a torque strap on the drivers side of the engine block to the frame. I use an American made Motor mount by the name of "Drake" I think. It is of good quality and is holding up fine to my small block in my 65. I do use the 66 style in my 65 btw. I have a friend running the old 65 style in his super pro Mustang going 9.80`s in the 1/4, he just uses a mean torque strap.

Hey dude!! You live in Valley Veiw? You planning on running the car @ Denton? I live in Aubrey and run @ Denton all the time. You should come out to the track this Saturday and take a look at my car. It runs low 7's on leaf springs and slappers. 60 Foots in the mid 1.50's. I will be out there testing and tuning during the KOTH show.
If you come out just look for the car in the sig. and stop by and give me a yell.

Tony

I was out of pocket all weekend with family in town. I drove buy the track a few time heading into town but could only look in discust becasue I wasn't out there. It looked like a pretty good show. I have been to the Denton Drags about ten times, mostly on test and tune and the Ford Chevy shootout. My car is out of commission for another four weeks or so. It is being painted in Denton and the engine was built by Houston Race Engines. I am currently waiting on the camshaft to arrive. I will be heading out to the drags as soon as I get the engine stabbed and broke in and will definetely look you up.

I have been through the Aubrey area many times. I live south of Valley View on the north side of Lake Ray Roberts.

The old engine was a 10:1 motor with an Erson 292 dur 502 lift cam. The car ran on a little NOS and the top rings came out in pieces when I tore it down. I also ran the Edelbrock Victor Jr. heads and had to fly cut the pistons a lot to get the required clearance for the big valves. I would assume the compression dropped significantly with all the cutting on the pistons. The suspension was basically the same except for the pinion angle problems and the sub frame connectors. The car ran good but began to blow smoke because of all the blowby.

Let me know if I can provide any other details.

I am using the Lakewood "Muscle Mounts" in the 66 Fastback. They appear to be "stock looking" but I hope they are better than stock as they cost more.
