Should I remove the choke horn from my Demon?

Guys, In think I might have resolved my stripped bowl thread problem, I have it at a shop right now, they will drill it out and push in a piece of aluminum stock and drill/tap it for me. Now to the question, since I have this thing tore apart I was thinking about removeing the choke horn. I will be running a very large scoop and was thinking the horn would be in the way of good flow into the carb, what do you think?

Any tips for doing this trick would be appreciated, should I go forward with this modification.

Thanks.

I say go for it! Its very easy to do with a drill press and flat bottom burr bit.

I just came across a "chevy...lol" date coded holley 780 downleg booster VS carb for 425hp big block 65 vette and chevelle with the correct number matching dual mettering plates and you bet I'm going to mill off that choke tower.....precious restoration codes and all What do I care

I'm using a drop base K&N control flow air cleaner and it wont fit anything with a choke.

If you do have that carb, sell it and buy a brand new one. Its probably worth 4-500 dollars

If it's worth that much, then I sure got one hell of a deal...lols. I though about a new one, but after I priced one, then added the rear metering plate, then the cost of putting in different boosters.....naw, I'll ruin this chevy one.

Holley dont make them like they use to.

I dont have a drill press, and the horn is molded in to the body such that a straight cut will probably not do, a die grinder and a little finessing, with a slow and carfull pace should give me a good result while improveing flow.

Any other comments.

I have seen a lot of Holley`s with this mod, not any Demons. I have a couple days maybe even a week.

N20 Mike I know you want to say something, you always do.

Thanks

The Demon carbs are already pretty streamlined. I wouldn't think milling the choke horn would be worth anything.

From what I've read milling the choke horn off a Holley isn't worth anything unless the top of the air cleaner is right down against it. It's sort of it's own 'velocity stack' and helps get the air moving straight down through the venturi/booster area.

Fogged, Don't hack up that old chevy carb. Sell it to a restorer. Purchase a new carb. They are better than that old antique 780 Vacuum you are wanting to hack on. It's more equivalent to a $200 #1310 750 Vacuum. (crapper)

I'll think about it maybe someone will actually want it...

About milling the choke again, true on what mike said, holley only recomends that it be milled if using one of the "Pro Flow" air cleaners or where filter to hood clearence is minimal when using a short element, or using a drop base element holder.

Well if this bowl thread fix works on my carb I will try the scoop w/o any other mods for a baseline, and go from there. I was mainly curious because the horn is essentially a wall that prevents air getting to the secondaries if the air is coming straight in from the scoop, well thats what it would to appear to be doing anyway. I will wait for now.
