BBF in Mustang problems
Well at long last I have got the motor in the 69, I am using the crites kit and the driver side valve cover is hitting the master cylinder I removed it to get the motor in but it is not going back on. I have the FMS alum. tall covers and have Harland Sharp rockers are there other covers I can use? Or is there any other suggestions. I didnt recall this to be an issue with the Project 460, this is a street car so I really want power brakes if at all possible. Also just looking at the front there is no way I can fit the electric fan on the inside is it a big deal to put it in front of the rad.? thanks
Robert

Stock/chrome ones etc. will work too. They will touch in a couple of spots, but can be relieved by tapping them out a LITTLE. I used Ford racing chrome ones on my last big block buld with Harland Sharp rockers and they worked fine. I not sure on your lift so it's just an idea.

I also did find a fan that I put behind the radiator kinda at the lower corner of the radiator. only had about 2.5" space between water pump and radiator so I understand your concern. I think it was a 12" type. It never ran hot though. A puller fan cools better. I also put one in front of the radiator. I think a 16" . They draw quite a bit so check your alt specs. Sounds like you've got a great project going! Always the little things that arise

Thanks, this one is going to be a lot patients & persistence I got the trans all set someone on the 385 forum said that I probably need to go with a non-power Master Cylinder now I have concerns about the headers I may have to dent them a little cut the towers even further I only have about a 1". At least there is progress! Thanks

Many places make a kit that moves the brake booster about 1" towards the shock tower. According to the people who sell them, it's enough to fit everything in there. The difference being that I've only noticed them for fox bodied Mustangs. Don't let that discourage you, though, that's all I'm looking for so I basically ignore everything else. Upon performing a search, the first place I came across was:

Hope this helps some,
Michael

I have a 460 in a 68 stang and I have the same valve covers as you do.I had to convert to manual brakes also. Its really not that bad as long as you have the right master and a manual brake pedal.I tried it with the power pedal and the pedal was like a rock! I changed it and was much better.I wouldnt have enough vac anyway for power brakes. My headers are from total performance but I used the crites engine and tranny mounts. The 2" headers fit good except the #8 tube hits the steering box which pretty much clearanced itsself.Hope this helps.

Yes that does give encouragement it is quite fustrating I got the FPA headers and too them out to check I may have to dent them a little to fit and cut a little more on the towers. What is the correct master with front discs I was going to be putting rear discs is that a bad idea? And do I need to change the Prop. Valve too? I was told a 73 Torino Master is a good option. Thanks again I am sure this is just the begining.

What are the FPA headers are they shorties or long tube? You shouldnt have to cut the shock towers unless you just want room to work on it.As for the master cylinder.I have only front discs from the factory and rear drums.I ordered a master from mustangs plus for a 68 with discs, power and manual have the same master. If you go with rear discs I cant help you on the master.but the factory prop. valve wont work.
