New Water Pump install advice

I am getting ready to install the new water pump. I Should be getting the new Aluminum radiator from Summit today, and have just gotten back from the Auto parts store with a new water pump. I bought a 78' water pump to install in my 68' so it will hook up to the new radiator without any problems. It is a 289 mainly stock engine. I have never installed a water pump before, I am looking for any advice and help you can give me. Do I just use the gasket, or do I use some silicon? It looks like it is mainly just abolt on, but I know that looks can be deceiving. Thanks a lot for all your help.

you can just bolt the gasket dry, but I brush on a very light coating of permatex aviation form a gasket on the gasket itself both sides. a little overkill but it makes me feel better.

Like I said in another post, keep an eye on the timing pointer to make sure that it and the outlet don't interfere.

Ok, I bought the 78' water pump (like a person said to do on another post), and the holes don't line up. I need a water pump that has the top outlet for the radiator hose on the drivers side because of this new radiator. Wat year (for sure) do I or can I get to solve this problem. Thank you very much for your advice.

The top radiator hose goes to the Intake and T-stat. The bottom hose on the radiator goes to the waterpump. Theres either a drivers side or passenger side waterpump outlet. You get the waterpump with the cooresponding sided radiator. All amall block v8 waterpumps will bolt up with the exception of the newer reverse flow style.

Ok, I've got some bad news. I was taking my water pump off and the last bolt snapped. I removed the water pump and the bolt is basically flush with the timing chain cover. I have tried easy outs, and reverse drill bits, but nothing works. The smaller bits break, and the bigger one WILL NOT drill in. What should I do. This little hold up is turning a day project into a few day catastrophy. Thank you for any advice.

Probably not the advice you are wanting but if you are like me nothing is ever as easy as other make it sound so the EZ outs and reverse bits will probably just lead to a bigger mess. The easiest thing to do is probably just take the timing cover off, grab the broken bolt with a pair of vice grips, sit back and drink a beer and be glad that you could git it out that easy. It might seem like more work but I'm sure if you would have done this in the first place it would have taken less time then what you have already spent trying to get it out. Hope this helps.

How do you get the timing chain cover off? I took off all the bolts and it still wouldn't come off (maybe I gave up too soon?). For the upper most bolt (the one that is broken) where does the threading start? If the threading startes in the timing chain cover and then keeps going into the block, then I would not be able to remove the cover. If the threading starts in the block (a good posibility), then that cover should be able to be removed. Thank you very much for all your guys' advice, I couldn't get my projects done without it.

I am sorry let me clarify myself. The bolt that is broken is the left most bolt all the way to the left in the upper left corner.
