65 Mustang - Converting from 6 Cylinder to V8

I have a 65 Mustang. Right now it's a slow 6 cylinder, and I want to convert it to a V8, probably a 302. I know that if I get a new engine, I also need a new transmission and a bunch of other stuff. Can someone please outline for me exactly what other stuff I need replaced in order to convert my Mustang? Also include prices I can expect to pay for each thing. One place quoted me $8000-$9000 for parts and labor for everything needed, but he refused to break it down for me, so I left. Any help would be appreciated.

I've never done the conversion, but many have.

Here's a link with some info.

I can't tell you how accurate or complete it is. After you digest it, you might visit http://www.vintage-mustang.com and check out the forums there. Just do a search on "conversion".

Good luck.

BTW, you can buy a whole 65/66 V8 Mustang in pretty damn good conditon for that kind of money. A coupe for sure and possibly a decent fastback.

You can pick up a decent parts car for very little $'s if you're patient. I found mine on ebay...got a good deal and didn't have to drive too far to pick it up.
