T5 Questions

Ford guys I have a couple quesitons I hope someone can help me with.

I have a option to get a T5 Tremec to install in my 66 Mustang. The 2 issues that I have are.

Issue 1. The Input shaft is to long same as 94 /95 Mustang. I have been told I could change the input shaft or use the Cobra 94 /95 bell housing. This would cause me to shorten my drive shaft. (I think I need to do that anyway) Any suggestions on what way to go??

Issue 2. The Trans I was thinking of using also has the Electonic (mag pick up) speedo. Can I buy a junk T5 Borg and change the tail shaft housing?

I can get this trans for a 100.00 bucks and think maybe I could buy a Junk 2.3l T5 for a 40-50 bucks and swap out parts to make the Speedo work. I don't know of any conversion from electronic to mechanical head for the speedo

Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated..

T5 Questions

There's even an easier solution to your issue #1: an adapter plate that does two things. Moves the trans back, because of the longer input shaft and allows the trans to be bolted up to your original bellhousing. I think most of the Mustang vendors carry it. Also check out www.moderndriveline.com for some good info on this.

Sorry, don't know about your issue #2.

T5 Questions

You can change the input shaft, a new one can be had for $60.80 at National Drive Train http://nationaldrivetrain.com. it's easy to do just remember the check the end play on the trans after the swap.

You will probably have to shorten the nose on the bearing retainer too. You might want to replace it with a steel one if it has an aluminum one now ($35 or so from Summit Racing).

I suspect you can also change the tail shaft housing as well.
