Early 302's have the dipstick in the timing cover you should be able to drill the boss out and use an early 302 dipstick or get a timing cover from that period they are on ebay all the time $10-20

Is it on the Left side of the timing cover on the bottom?

Yes facing the motor it is to the left if I get a chance today I can take a quick picture of one for you I had to drill one out for my car when I put a 85 302 in my 69 and to keep the timing pointer the same for the 85 it was easier to drill that out than to switch covers and balancer

by the way, some early timing covers, ones in trucks and vans, had the hole already drilled for the dipstick, but when it was used the the trucks and vans ford installed a sheetmetal plug, like a coolant jacket core plug, to plug the hole.
