65 ford mustang starting problems...Selenoid makes clicking noise

I have a 65 ford mustang that has a clicking noise when I try to start it. A clicking noise comes from starter selenoid mounted in the engine compartment when I turn the key to start the car. I replaced the selenoid but the same clicking noise comes from the selenoid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Everyone I ever had that started clicking ended up being a dead or weak battery.

It's usually an indicator of a battery problem, if you've repalced it and it still does it, make sure you have good contact from the battery to the terminals. Clean them up real good, I usually use a light grit sand paper and shine up the posts and the cable terminals real good. Also check the wires on and around the voltage regulator, if there is rust or corrosion, that could be the culprit too. More than likely, it's time for a new battery.

I checked the wiring fo corrosion etc. but now when when I try to start it only will start if I jump the car. It will idle for a couple of minutes then die out. headlight/ wipers go on but car will not sdtart unless Ii jump it. could it be the wiring wrong to the selenoid when I hooked it back up ?
on one terminal of selenoid(side that is nearest to front of car)positive cable from battery and two wires fronm front of car (headlights) are hooked to it.
on other terminal ( side that is nearest rear of car) just one wire coming from starter ) is hooked up.
one wire that is coming from wire harness is not hooked up...should this be hooked up???????

Thank for any help.

Sounds like the battery..
when you jump it you get a little charge into the battery so it well run for a minute.. but once its running if the battery is bad the motor should run off the generator or altnator which ever you have (if its idleing fast enought anyway) I would have the battery checked and be sure that the conection at the battery or good ie: post shinny, and the inside of the cables shinny. If they arn't you won't get a good conection..
as for the sylenoid the battery should go to the first post as well as a couple big wires, and one wire comming out of the other end of the sylenoid to the starter. then two small wires on the side of the sylenoid one is marked with a "S" and one with a "I" ... the "S" wire comes from the ign switch that say's start, (that tells the sylenoid to ingage the starter.) and the "I" wire is rooted through the harnes and suplies 12 to the coil at start up I may be wrong on that one. I might have a dirgam I'll look if I do I'll repost..it.
hope this helps

did you ever fix your problem? I had a similer prob. Thoght it was the solinoid, changed it still acted up. Changed the starter She started once , I wound up changing all three batt. cables. Here is the kicker.... when I went to change the pos. cable I noticed it was on only a 1/4 of thr terminal and it ws dirty insude of it to boot. since then no probs. Starts up all the time.
A side note is I had to add a shim when I put the new starter on, the starter drive kept hitting the fly wheel untill the shim was put on. my 2 cents
