Timing and more timing

Ok guys, Its hot here, had my timing as followed: initial 8* total 36* by 3000 rpm's. When its cold it will run strong as hell to 6200 with no loss of power or stumble,Nice. When running temp, 180* good responce and power down low, but ping like a mother from 4300 up. big loss of power. but see it only pings when im all the way in the gas, 3/4 throttle no pinging. 670 vac holley.
Yesterday, changed to 8* initial total of 33* total by 3000rpms, it was warm and couldnt get past 4800 rpms, pinged a bit but not as much. this morning with same setting, had a bobble at 5200 but still strong.
What do you guys think I need to do to run it to 6000 rpms in the heat with no pinging. COlder plug???
sorry so long
347 afr185 10.7 cr, perf. rpm. 670 vac sec. holley, msd billet dizzy, msd 6a box. 91 octane but in a heavy 82 4x4

Have you put a timing light on it at 4700 to make sure its not over advancing? If you advance is all in by 3000, then the ping at 4700 is not related to timing unless somehow your dizzy is still advancing past its total.

Sounds like its a lean condition thats causing the ping, jet up, change to a lighter vacuum spring, make sure your power valve is opening correctly, or try a different carb.

Yeah it dont go past 32* total. I was thinking a lean condition also. Secondaries ill lighten the spring up some and see that. if that helps i will get the total timing where it should im thinking 36* total??? diff carb ide like to put a 650dp and see what that does, but i dont got one. the jetting is stock for the carb kinda spread out too 68 in front and 89 in rear. big diff. i just dont wanna burn a piston.
would cooler plugs help???
how do you know if the powervalve is opening correctly?
