How to rotate radial tires?

I know you need to rotate radials in a certain order. I can't remember 100% which way I did it last time but I know it was the "right" way. I don't want to get the order wrong and end up with the tires I previously rotated on the same corner as they had been on a couple months ago!

Memory tells me it was the front passenger to rear passenger and front driver's side to rear driver. Then rear passenger to front driver etc. Or is it switch sides when moving the fronts to the rear and move the rears to the front keeping them on the same side?

This could really be trouble if I get a couple different opinions!

So you're not supposed to change sides. Just change them from front to back? Glad I asked!

Thanks for replying to such a boring question.

I read that also, straight front to back and vice versa. Saw them say for the tires of today. Maybe the first radials were different or they discovered that it wasn't beneficial to do it the other way. Not sure.

Doesn't matter unless they are a directional treaded tire. Usually directional tires will have V or higher speed rating.

How to rotate radial tires?

I don't think it matters. My '97 Toyota's owner's manual showed a criss cross pattern. It certainly had radial tires. However, our '97 Volvo's manual showed front to rear only. Maybe it depends on the type of tire and the car that it's on.

I think I'll check the owner's manual (I really should have done that first!). Thanks for reminding me about that.

It's for my Denali (first non-ford I've ever owned) and I don't think it has directional tires.

Thanks for the replys!

How to rotate radial tires?

I know the old radial tires would self destruct if you swapped sides when rotating the tires. Something about being turned one way for a while and then the other separated the tread from the tire...The "correct" way for most new tires is fronts to backs, then backs to opposite corner fronts. My dad still holds to the old method, he won't swap sides just because it seems like it would be bad for the tire.

On the new radials it isn't supposed to matter, but better safe that sorry.
