comp 140 fuel leak ?

My Mallory Comp 140 leaks fuel even after putting pipe thread sealant on the threads. (twice) The instructions say to put the pipe thread sealant on the by pass plug. I had to do this due to the return line I am using. The regular lines work fine, its just the bypass plug in the pump that is giving me a headache. Anybody have this problem???? What should I do? Thanks,
Mike

I've never had any leaks with my comp regulator.

Its hard to follow your post.

Are you saying that you pluged the return hole, or that you have a return line hooked up but it leaks?

Are you using the correct NPT size?

If you are running a return line with the comp 140, the manufacturer states that you must remove the spring in the bypass assembly and replace the spring with the included brass plug. The brass plug is placed into the pump itself. Then, screw in the allen head plug with pipe thread compound instead of teflon tape. It's all in the pump itself. I have no leaks in my lines whatsoever. (Thankfully) I guess the reasoning is that the teflon tape will clog the gerator pump and break it. I cant understand why Mallory would recommend pipe thread sealant if it does not seal. Thanks,
MIKE

I never had to do anything to my mallory comp 140 pump. I bought it new and it never had directions stating to put anything into the pump.

The mallory regulator came with some instruction to choose the correct spring for high EFI or low carb fuel pressure but that was it.

Maybe my box was missing those instruction? I have been running the pump untouched and I havn't had fuel problems.

I'll have to take a closer look at my pump and see whats up.....I thought they didn't have a pressure bypass and thats why you had to run a return regulator with them.

Maybe they have changed the design over the years
