oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo o

If you go with the p head, you will have to beat up your Mac headers to make them work..2 or 3 of the plugs wires will be to close to the pipes.

You can do what I did,get a set of headers made for the p-heads.They are made by Mac, but only sold thought Central Coast

96 will be ok with my current headers? Will mountaineer heads work also? How much are they usually and will i have to do anything to them? Also what kind of HP gains can u expect from the heads and intake?

Tony, so anything pre 97 and headers wont be an issue correct. Do u know if i will have to do anything extra or will they be a direct bolt on?

The '96-early '97 Explorers/Mountaineers had the GT-40 heads, same as the Cobra Mustangs, and are dirrect bolt-ons. The intakes from these engines have internal egr passages like the Mustang intakes.

In mid '97 Ford switched to the GT-40P heads. They have angled spark plugs and don't work with most aftermarket headers made for the earlier heads. The intakes from these engines use an external egr tube and have no passages.

All Explorers/Mountaineers use a 65mm throttlebody, an upgrade from the stock Mustang unit.

Hope this helps.

Hey guys, I bought a 97 explorer motor for my 86 hatch and will be putting an e303 cam in it, cobra intake, the gt-40p style headers from fms and people have been telling me to replace the pushrods and lifters and rockers and all that in those heads. Has anyone ever took these gt-40p heads straight from the explorer to the mustang without modifications?
I plan on getting 1.7 bolt on cobra rockers that came on the 93's (they are brand new 50resto.com)
I got the e303, and need to know if i will bend a pushrod or something if i dont do any changes. Let me know i need this information now.
