door hinge springs

Has anyone figured out a trick to installing (compressing) those stout little bastard door hinge springs so that you don't put an eye out, swear or otherwise damage your prized possession getting those blasted things in?

In a word, no.

Only tip is to stuff a rag or old t-shirt around the hinge while you use a screwdriver to pry it into place. Maybe I should fab up some tiny spring compressors...

I compressed them with my vice and used ty-raps to keep them compressed until I installed them.

Hey Thekingofazle,

If you fab one up, hollar back and I'll send a truck to pick it up!

I read somewhere that you could compress the spring and then put it in a plastic bag with enough water to submerge the spring and then freeze it.

I would be suprised if it actually worked, but someone claimed it did.

GOOD LUCK (YOUR GOING TO NEED IT)

that actually seems like a cool idea (pardon the pun). I think it would work!

I have an idea for the compressors...maybe I'll try it, lol

If it works, praise to me...

I compressed mine in a vice and then tied it down with a wire guitar string on opposite sides. Put it in the hinge and then cut the wire with wire cutters. Worked for me.

That is an awsume idea, I have been wondering how to get my drivers side spring back in for years, I try it every now and again but have failed.

Hey Bluestreek, you ready to sell your hood yet.
