High-Revving Hydraulic Roller Lifters

What are the best hydraulic roller lifters available the will turn 7,000rpm without floating? Are there any? They would go into my 331.

You could basically use the OEM roller lifters or the Crane Cams linked roller lifters. The linked ones cost a lot more but also are supposed to have a better anti pump up design. I have the OEM Ford Racing hyd roller lifters with the spyder retainer. I shift mine at about 6900 rpms and have had it over 7200 rpms a few times with no problems.

f100,

Thanks for the reply. What valve springs are you using? I'm running upgraded AFR springs and Comp Cams lifters and when I reach 6K, things seem to peter out. I'm thinking maybe it's the springs.

I'm not sure of the part number because I got them with my cam. They are a PSI brand double with dampner. Specs are around 155#@1.825" and somewhere in the 400# range open. They seem to be working really good so far.

Just make sure to use minimum amount of preload, try 1/6 turn. My 393 with Comp 282 XR hydroller revved to 6700 without a problem.

Lunati has them for SBC, it's only a matter of time.

Re: High-Revving Hydraulic Roller Lifters

The lifters dont have anything to do with it, IT IS THE CAM GRIND that determins how high an engine can rev.. BEEN THERE DONE THAT. Your looking in the wrong place.

Run the pushrods bottomed out. Or just a little off of bottomed out. That will effectively give you a solid lifter. Oh, and read this:

Re: High-Revving Hydraulic Roller Lifters

running bottom out hyd. lifters will get them to follow the cam better, can also cost you a engine if not done correctly

Re: High-Revving Hydraulic Roller Lifters

Listen to Big Joe, he is the one giving the best advice here. All hyd rollers are heavy, differences between them are minor.

The key is how the lobe accelerates the lifter and how quickly the lobe drops out from under it. That determines control

I dont have the answer for what you need for a cam to spin those numbers, but ask some cam grinders and they can probably get you there.

I would suspect an asymmetrical lobe that has a steep leading ramp and a more gradual return
