1970 Cougar/Mustang tilt steering slipping
Yes. It's straightforward but not easy.
There is a pin that keeps the teeth of the tilt in place. Problem is Ford didn't restrict the two ends of the pin and it tends to walk out of its holes which causes the problem you have.
To fix it you will need:
1) Patience, lots of it.
2) A steering wheel puller
3) A friend who has done this before
Pull the wheel, lift out the turn signal switch, unscrew the turn signal lever, remove the ignition switch, unscrew the metal 'head' of the column (the piece that tilts just under the wheel.
Now the tilt mechnism will be exposed. You will see the steel pin I mentioned. Relocate to its hole an and put it all back together.
Cheers.
