What rear axle is this?

Hello,

I am looking at a 1972 Mustang for sale, it is a coupe that was imported from Mexico (Mexican Made). It has some things different done to it, I was wondering if anyone could identify the rear end in this? I have never seen one with anything other than an 8 or 9 inch. Also note that it has staggered shocks, is this customary on this year? I am trying to determine the value of the car among other things.

Thank you for any information.

This car is owned by the second owner, I know it's not an 8.8, the owner is a doctor and not a real gear-head, so more than likely, it's original. (If that helps)

Looks like a Dana (Spicer). I've seen them in 70's Ford pickups.

Dana 44 I think, never saw one in a Mustang, but they are good axles, in the front of most everything Dodge, Mopar, Chevy etc, and in the rear of many AMC 4x4's

Its nowhere near as strong as a 9 inch, but certainly on par with an 8 inch / 10 bolt Chevy

nah, compare the tubes to the exhaust pipes, its too small to be a 60.
