Dual Quads w/ stock heads and cam Questions
Will the motor (1972 302) completely suck with an F-28 and stock heads?
Also, what cam will work best with this combo?
I am just building the engine for a future project...NOT sure what that will be at this point...So I don't know the specifics of weight, gears, etc, etc... I am thinking 50's ford pick up though...with a 4 speed...
Thanks,
Mike

Dual Quads w/ stock heads and cam Questions
The two cam shafts that I can get with the rebuild kit are:
290/300 Adv Duration, .472/.496 lift, 112 deg lobe center
or
280/290 Adv Duration, .448/.472 lift, 112 deg lobe center
Edelbrock's recommended cam for torque is their 2122
270/280 adv Duration, .448/.472 lift, 112 deg lobe center
My question is what will the small difference in advertised duration do? Will I even notice a difference? Also, if I go with the top cam listed, do you think that that change in lift is going to hurt or help in a purely cruising motor?
You guys rule I am an a$$kisser
Happy new year~

Dual Quads w/ stock heads and cam Questions
Of the three cams you mention I run one of them in my daily driver 302/ranger, its the 2122 e-brock. The cam has great torque with a smooth idle and with my dual plane and ported 351w heads it will easily run up to 5500rpm. The two other cams you mention the second one is a generic cam that alot of companies make it is the same as the e-brock 2122 the first one is about 10 deg longer at .050" than those other ones and it would trade off a little bit of torque down low but make more hp up top. Allways be sure to compare the at .050" duration numbers cause they give a better more accurate reading than adv duration, some stock cams can have over 300 deg adv but only have about 205 deg at .050" lift and comparing that with an aftermarket cam will be quite a difference. If it were me either cams will do, the bigger will have a noticable idle and the smaller will make more tq but it would be hardly noticable. Either way you go be sure to use the right springs, the 2122 I run stock springs but if you want to use the bigger cam go with the recommended springs.

Dual Quads w/ stock heads and cam Questions
The 204/214 cam is a good one - we've had one in the Mustang for years. I would not run much more than that because you'll want good low end for a cruiser. Especially with the duals as they will be mroe for show than go.

Dual Quads w/ stock heads and cam Questions
Thanks guys! I was thinking that I should stay very concervative with the cam considering the stock heads...
Yes the dual quads will be for show, not go. I just like the look of mulitple carbs, and since I am building a 302, the only availible multi carb intake is the Edel F-28.
I would do a tri-power if it was set up for the old school ford 94 carbs, but no body makes those....Plus dual quads is very period correct for about 1962 (not on a 302...i know)
Thanks again!

Dual Quads w/ stock heads and cam Questions
Dual quads are cool. They look great on a 302 and are definitely for show. I always wondered how well that setup works.

Dual Quads w/ stock heads and cam Questions
Ive been considering a polished dual carb intake and 2 600 edelbrocks when i do the head and cam swap on mine.
I just like the WOW factor of it too.

1200cfm will probably be too much even with good heads. I would try to use smaller Edelbrocks or 450 Holleys.
I sure wish they would make cool intakes for 351s.

Dual Quads w/ stock heads and cam Questions
450 Holleys don't fit on the Edelbrock F-28...But I am not sure about the old Offenhauser's (which I have a line on one) I hope the Holley's work on that one (I can get them from a buddy)
500 cfm Carters/E-brocks is what I have read from several sources is the right size for the job. With a smaller cam, they recomend you lean the carbs out with the correct metering rods...
Also, from what my old man tells me, there were plenty of stock 65-66 Mustangs running the Ford "aftermarket" Cobra dual quad intakes...So I figure it will be ok...Plus as a custom guy I am willing to live with some "suck" to get the look
Thanks again!
Mike
By the way, lets see some pics!
