okay cam broke in, how idle problem

guys, some people have been saying they want to leave cause there are no tech questions or a lot of bs has been going on. Well i have only been a memeber for a few months, and i have to say, the first thing i did when i couldnt get my engine started is post a message out here, within 20 mins i had an answer. It wasnt the right answer but it got me thinking at least i know this is my first line of help. You guys are awsome and we need to stick together. now that i said what i need to, here is my question, and I will be doing a search too im sure everyone has run into this.

Broke in the cam with a used 670 street avenger off ebay. it was idleing at 2500 rpm and if i adjusted the screw idle didnt change. So im thinking vacuum leak, or throttle blades not closed all the way

Did you use a new carb to manifold gasket.
and certain you have good vac lines.

yea i got new manifold/spacer gaskets, i will double check vacuum lines, but would that cause it to idle at 2500rpm? i will pull the carb and check the throttle blades, since it was used i have no idea what the other guy did

I had the same problem with my last rebuild with a Holley 670 Street Avenger. After getting everything broke in I couldn't lower the idle. I had to close off the secondary blades with the adjustment screw located recessed in the base directly under where the the vacuum secondary diaphram rod attaches to the secondary blade shaft. Once I backed off, the engine began to idle down where I could then make the appropriate adjustment with the fast idle screw.

Good luck.

FYI - I don't know what kind of HP you are putting up but when I called Holley several months ago and spoke with their Street Avenger Tech about a lean condition I was experiencing with my 670, I was told that the 670 Street Avengers were not putting out the same numbers that they had tested and advertised at. I had purchased my 670 a few months earlier so he told me to send it back and they exchanged and upgraded it for a new 770 Street Avenger at no charge.

The 770 performed fantastic! You may not be on the high end of the 670 HP curve so this may not be an issue, just wanted to give you a heads up in case when you get everything tuned and adjusted and then begin running into lean conditions.

Again good luck with your adjustments.

Three things come to mind:

1. You have a vacuum leak.

2. Your throttle linkage isn't seating fully

3. Your carb was on eBay for a reason.
