Duraspark and 12 volts?

I will be wiring up the duraspark on my 65 F100 this weekend. The truck doesn't seem to have a resistor wire coming from the switch, I'm pretty sure its 12 volts going to the ignition. If it is 12v, do I need to use a ballast resistor to knock it down a few volts? Will the duraspark box burn up if it runs at 12V all the time?

The truck had been running on the duraspark before I started restoring it and it had a resistor, now I'm putting it back together. Problem is, I can't find a way to hide the resistor anywhere, I'm trying to keep all wires and stuff hidden. If I have to use a resistor, I guess I'll find somewhere to put it...

Duraspark and 12 volts?

I might have this figured out. Duraspark guys, lemme know if this sounds right.

I won't be using the white wire going to the box, so I just need to hook an "Igntion on" 12V source to the red wire going to the box. Of the 4 wires going out of the box, orange/purple/black make a harness that plugs into the dizzy. The 4th wire, the green one, goes to the (-) post on the coil. The (+) post of the coil is fed by an "Ignition on" source thats been cut back to 9V. As far as I know, thats all there is. Sound right?

if you didnt buy the ignition box yet id go out and purchase an msd unit. i have the 6a and you can use that as your ignitionbox plus the multi spark upgrade. my .02 cents

Duraspark and 12 volts?

The Dura-spark does not care what voltage is going to the coil (9v or 12V). The coil however does mind. It depends on the coil you plan to use. If it is a stock coil for the Dura-spark system, then you will need a resistor. I plan to soon use a TFI coil, which uses 12v on my system. Do a Google on the Dura-spark or try this page http://www.ifsja.org/tech/electrical...nupgrade.shtml . Look for TFI upgrade blurp; it explains the 12v instead of resistor wire to coil.

Hope this helps

I didn't know the TFI coil could be used, I might try that.....
