Cylinder Head opinions

Hey, I'm uilding a new engine for the Cougar. I have not decided on the heads yet. The heads that are on the engine in the car now are AFR 185's out of the box. They work pretty well. Do you guys thing there is any need to change the heads that I'm using? Is there a better head for a 306 as a race motor. The new motor is going to be 12.6:1 compression, with a cam dur @ .050 of 260* int /268* exh. 106 centerline installed @ + 4* and a lift of .620. I'm also considering up grading to 1 3/4 headers also. Give your opinions. Thanks

I would keep the heads you have now. I am sure everyone on there will say get diffrent heads.I am running iron roush 200 heads on my race 306 that runs 10.90's with the wrong stall .i just found out a few days ago.I also would step up to the 1-3/4" headers. how fast are you trying to go?

Glidden Victor Jr heads will kick ass.

We have some victor Jrs on a 393 and I'm not impressed with them. TFS track heats preformed better.

Don't go TOO big on a 306.

Call AFR. I believe they offer another 'competition' level of porting. Last I read, you could send your existing heads back to them for the upgrade.

Might be something to look into... but I don't think you want to go much, if any larger.

Good Luck!

I didn''t say tobuy Vic Jr's. I said buy the Glidden Vic Jr.'s. Revised valve angles and CNC porting to Billy's specs.
