swap help!!!

I have the chance to buy parts off a totalled lightning, and i want to put the motor in my '67 coupe in the garage. People are telling me this may not be possible because of the size of the block, or that I would have to get all new suspension and steering to squeeze it in. Has anyone ever done this, or heard of it being done? Just need to know how i can pull it off before i buy all the stuff.

The modular motors are wider then 460's from what ive heard. That would more then likely require you to completely remove the shock towers and go with a mustang II type suspension.

Even the 4.6 is wide, I would imagine the 5.4 is even wider. Not sure if they are the same deck height or not though.
Either way it will require quite some work to sqeeze in the mustang.

swap help!!!

All the mod motor (4.6 and 5.4) swaps I've seen had the shock towers removed and Mustang II front suspensions. I'm sure there are other methods, but it's a big engine (wider than a 429) and nothing is a bolt in.

Only ones ive seen are in magazines so i imagine theres quite a bit of fabrication.

How good are you i guess is the question.Im sure the wiring would be a PITA.

Sure be rewarding in the end though.A friend has a lighting with complete from block back to tips bassani exhaust new TB and under drives and its unbelivable that its a truck!I can only imagine in something light like a stang.

You will need to put a mustang II front end on it and take out the shock towers. The benifits are disc brakes, your car will handle better and you canfit that massive engine. But it is a major fabrication job and will cost lots of money. Id imgaine adapting a trans would be kinda tricky too.

Headers, oil pan, pickup, tranny mount, engine mounts: all would have to be fabbed. Bottom line: You could about build a killer 351 stroker for what it's gonna cost you to install that motor.

Will it be easy? no...

But It sure would look cool. If you have fab ability, I say go for it. I always thought it would be cool to have a roots blown mod motor under the hood of my 71. Sounds like a bitchin project, with a lot of originality.
