Another balancer quesiton 4 bolt vs. 3 bolt

Thsi one has been buggin me for a while. While I am changing balancers I noticed most all aftermarket pulleys are 4 bolt. Can I go with a 4 bolt balancer? Will there be a spacing problem from the water pump? It also seems like there is a better choice for balancers out there with 4-bolt set-ups. I have a 3-bolt balancer now i am looking treplace with this new assembly.

Thanks,
Chris

Ford changed from the 3 bolt to a 4 bolt sometime around 1969-70. It causes us guys major issues with the old 3 bolt pulleys when trying to change over. To change over, its trial and error in finding pulleys and a balancer that match. Plus you'll need to worry about the timing pointer as well, as the 4 bolt balancer is usually marked from the other side...
then there is the water pump issue...
I ended up staying with the 3 bolt because of this.

I hear you, a few years back I was looking at switching over to a aftermarket set of pulleys.....The only set I found was from Ford Motorsports, I ended up powder coating my old ones, but just wondering well since I am swapping balancers maybe now is the time togo with a 4-bolt. The ones I was looking at had the timing marks on the correct side. I am jsut wondering about the spacing between the waterpump and crank pulley.

Professional Products has a very nice looking balancer that can accept either the 4 bolts or the three bolts. I mean it has two bolt hole patterns to use. Excellent balancer....I have one. (for a 302)
