351c / maverick question
Trust me, you're not going to find a definite answer to those questions. The 351C fits, but BARELY, and you'll have to be a contortionist (sp?) to get the plugs changed along with getting the header bolts in. I am not sure of any headers that will fit that chassis without mods, early mustang headers MIGHT fit, but then again....you're probably not going to find a straight answer from anyone. The 351W won't fit without tower mods. Well, it will...but good luck finding headers or manifolds to fit without notching the towers.
I went through this already a few years ago. Went to a Mustang 2 front end and those problems are gone---forever!
on the flip side, the 4V clevelands are awesome runners for an iron-headed motor. Put one in a fairly light Maverick and it'd be a neat ride for sure!

You might try sanderson headers, they make alot of speacilty headers for swaps also they have a block hugger for the cleveland which is suppose to be the tightest fitting header you can get. I believe the place is sandersonheaders.com

351c / maverick question
A friend of mine in high school had a 71 Maverick Grabber and he put a 351C in it , but it wasn't pretty. He tried to set the motor in and it stopped on the shock towers before it hit the motor mounts (I believe when he did this the exhaust manifolds where still attached). He pulled the motor from a wrecked Torino and dropped it in. He ended up smashing the shock towers in to get it to fit. He didn't care.
I will say that that car with that stock 351C 2V with 4 barrel manifold was very fast. I remember the vibration when the motor would try to torque over against the shock towers.
Very ugly!
It did seem like there was more room under the hood of my early Mustang, then his Maverick. That's not saying much though.

351c / maverick question
Im willing to cut the shock towers, my friend has a plasma cutter. I just wanted to know any tips or tricks like front springs, brakes, steering... Hey 427sidewinder, is sanderson a real header or is it just a fancy iron exhaust manifold ? I wouldnt wanna spend that kind of money and just get a fancy manifold, Im gonna go for the scavenging effect. thanks guys and PLEASE keep the info coming, pictures would be great because of the high level of lameness i posess.

351c / maverick question
I built a '74 Mav with a 70 351C-4V as a goof about 10 years ago. It was the sickest little burnout machine you're ever seen. That motor would obliterate the 195-75-14's on the car all the way through third gear, only stopping when you let off the gas. Not great for 1/4 mile times, but fun as heck for a short time.
Anyway, I used the C-4 that was in the car, using the tranny mount as the motor locating device. I actually did not have any motor mounts, i had "header mounts". When the headers were bolted up, you could hang the front of the car by an engine hoist on the motor and it wouldn't budge. I did a little "sledgehammer surgery" to the towers to get the headers to clear.
The 6-cyl radiator was adequate and factory fan fit fine.
If I were to do it again (which I plan on, just waiting for the right Mav to come along), I will be sectioning the towers out to clear the headers. Headers were Hooker Comps for a 71-3 Mustang & 351C-4V (6915 IIRC). I've already procured a set of Mav V-8 mounts and tranny x-member. Next car will also be a stick if at all possible.
Then again, re-creating that Boss 302 Mav that Motor Trend "made" in '70 would be pretty cool too.....

351c / maverick question
try tubular automotive. they had headers to fit my clevland into my 66 mustang without tower mods. plugs are pretty accessable also, but fitment was not the best. price was 300 uncoated.

351c / maverick question
The sanderson header is a 16 ga, steel tubular block hugger header. go to the website sandersonheaders.com they have 2-3 diffrent headers for clevelands in diffrent chasis configs,
they have an FC4 but I couldnt find it. they list all the dimensions for their headers. I think their 285 plain 435. coated.
