Head clean up.....

Alight my D00E heads jsut came in yesterday....they are really nicely ported on both intake an exhaust also have the oversized valves 1.94/1.6 and screw-in studs....they are dirty is the only thing...The are SS valves but are carboned up...on the bottoms and also on the exhaust sides....is the best thing to start cleaning them with is brake cleaner???? They only have 3 nights on them at the track so they don't have many hours on them. Also should I run some rolls of sand paper to clean out the exhaust sides? I plan on installing new valve seals just for piece of mind......so the valves will be out.

Thanks,
Chris

If you are removing the valves I would clean them up a little. Just remember that when you remove the valves they should be lapped in order for them to seal again. When the valve is removed it won't be installed in the exact same position it was in. Thus it won't seal as good.

Honestly, I would only clean up around the combustion chambers and make sure the the mating surface is good and clean. I'd leave the valves alone. Blow the heads off with air and run it.

So you wouldn't even do new seals? I mean I guess ifit needs seals it is easy enough just to hold the valve up with air in the car......Clean up the CC chamber...would a nylon brush or brass bush due on the dremel???

I'd do new seals, but keep the valves up with air. Any brush should work with some degreaser.
