4R70W help

I purchased a 94 Mark VIII a few weeks ago to replace my wrecked 96. The owner claimed that the 1-2 accumulator piston was bad and stated that sometimes it would not go into gear right away. I have another theory, that the converter is going bad. The car will sometimes, but not always, not go into 1st or reverse for a few seconds. On top of that, sometimes going into second it will throw the entire rearend out, something I would expect with a high stall converter and gears. Is the converter slipping or am I imagining things?

Highly doubt it's a'converter' concern.
What's the fluid look like? PUlled the pan yet? Any metal particles/chunks in it?
Lots of possibilities. Torn lip seals, sticky valve body, lots of little things can cause that. Hell, low fluid can cause a couple of those concerns.
Good luck either way.

if it was a C4, C6, AOD, PG, T350,T400...any of the older transmissions, I could probably tell ya what's wrong. Anything with wires on it goes to someone who had more patience than I do these days!

Just recently got a look-see inside of a '03 Dodge pickup 1/2 ton transmission. What a joke. There were more solenoids and wires in there than hard parts

You might want to take it to a shop and get the diagnostic codes ran on it.It could be something as simple as a bad shift solenoid with an intermittent problem.

Run the codes & ask someone that repairs a lot of them. Mine has 160K on it & the range sensor is going bad. It acts like you shift it in neutral sometimes while driving. I'm too cheap to pay $150 for one & at $2 a gallon for gas it just sits now.
