power steering hard line

The hard line from the port on the back of my steering pump is in rough shape and needs to be re bent. I pulled it off and it looks like a standard flare on the end into the pump but something new to me on the other end. It is a 3/8" piece, maybe brass, with a raised lip on it. Installed about 3/8" back from the end of the line.
What is this? Do you have to use it, or would a flare do? Can I just use hard line like for fuel line or brake line and bend my own or do I have to buy a special line?

Hmmm..not sure what piece you're talking about but the hose is still available. Did you mean the return line that's part of the pump itself?

Nope, not the return line, the pressure line on mine has a hard line that bolts right to the back of the pump. It's bent 90 degrees right after where it attaches to the pump and mine has been bent a few too many times to make it fit, so I want a new one.
