Stupid SB questions from a BB guy

Hi guys, I don't know much about SB engines, so I have to bug you for some answers. I tried a search, but didn't come up with what I needed.
I'm installing a 351W into a buddy's 1970 Mustang. He bought the 351 from a guy a year ago, and I don't know much about it other than it's a mild 351 with '69 heads. I guess the block is a later model, as the block casting # is E3AE 6015 BA, and the dampener # is E1TE-D3A. There's no dipstick tube hole in the timing chain cover. It didn't come with a flexplate.
Here's my questions...
Will the stock 302 flexplate work on the 351?
What about the stock starter?
Will the timing chain covers interchange, or will I have to drill the cover out for the dipstick tube?
Will I go crazy before I get this thing in?
Sorry about all the dumb questions - I've never had much to do with Windsor engines.

make sure an early (28 oz) flexplate. all 351w engines are 28 oz ext balance. also make sure it is the same tooth count to match to the bellhousing. what transmission? if a C6 then 164 tooth. if C4 then could be 157 or 164 tooth. if this is the flexplate off the original engine in the car, should be no problem; just use it.

stock starter should work.

check that both covers are the same thickness. there are 2 different thicknesses & will mess with your pulley alignment. ther is a 5/16 in difference.

you'll probably go crazy.

That's why I came here - you guys are the guru's! Thanks for the replies! I wasn't going to pull the 302 if there was going to be a rebalance in the works or something ugly to deal with. Heading to the shop right now - thanks again!

Also the 164 tooth off of the c4 will not work with a c6.

why wont a 164 C4 flexplate work with a C6? just curious.

The one for a c6 has a .75 step in it. The one for a c4 has .5 step in it.

AHH, that motor is a 50oz imbalance, DO NOT use the rotating parts on the 351.

Well, I pulled the 302, and it's not the original motor. It has an E0 casting date, and a 157 tooth flexplate. The balance weight is 4" long. This isn't going to work is it? [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_frown.gif[/img]

no biggie, just find a 28 oz balancer and a 28 oz flexplate. Simple swap.
