How much can an axel from a Maverick rear.be shortened without resplining.and how far down is the axel tempered.for shortening.Thanks Ken N.

I don't think it can be, there isn't enough spline area.

You have to shorten at least 4" from any 8" or 9" axle to be able to get to the meaty part of the axle that will allow re-splining.
