Anyone looking for a Comp 282S Magnum? I'm selling my new one!

I talked to a pro engine builder, said I would see alot more torque on my street 357w if I went to a Hydro cam.

He recomended the Performer RPM 7182.

I plugged this in on Desktop Dyno 2000, and was stunned of how much MORE torque AND HP this made over the S282.

To recap the combo......

351 .030 over
Pro topline 200 heads w/ 58cc chambers
compression 9.75 to 10.00
Vic Jr. intake
750 Vac. carb
Comp 282S

The car is street driven, just a toy, but DD says the Edel is 40 more HP & TQ.

MAy put my NEW 282S up for sale, if this wil work out to the advantage............Thanks All!!!!

Revnkevin, Your suggested Edelbrock RPM cam specs out at 290/300 for duration..........224/234 @.050........with 496/496 lift.

I would say the XE274H with 274/286 duration........230/236 @.050.....w/.519/.523 lift (1.6 roller rockers) With 1.7's you should see a .551/555 lift. If your looking for more torque, this should get you what you need. It seems that after you reach 270 ish duration and go higher you lose torque and gain HP. This cam should be ideal for a street driven car.

Than again....
I plugged in an Air gap inplace of the Vic. Jr.

Now Torque is 400 + from 2000 rpm up to 6000.

I think I found my combination!!!

The 400+ is from which cam in and intake?
Sorry to jump in but my motor is close in specs to yours. I have the RPM 2.02 heads and the 270h cam.

On Desktop Dyno, I found that result using the following:

RPM Air Gap
750 cfm carb
S282 Magnum Solid cam
10:1 compression
Pro topline 200 heads
1 3/4 Shorty Headers with Mufflers.

I have tried LOTS of hydrolic flat tappet cams(on the desk top) and none show the same torque curve as the 282S with the air Gap.

Horsepower is down compared to the Vic. Jr, but torque is Awesome!

Your torque is helped by the dual plane Air Gap.

This build is similar to the one I am doing except I am using a Weiand Stealth intake (only way to keep the engine under my 65's hood.)

RevnKevin-what happens when you add the stealth to the above combo????

Dennis<

I dont have the "specks" for the Stealth intake.

I had one of these on a 460 and I was AWESOME!

My 347 Stroker has cast iron heads that were ported and flow 225cfm on intake and 185cfm on exhaust at .532 lift. I'm using Comp Cams 270H/224/224@.050.........532/.532 lift with 1.7 rollers. Barry Grant 750 Speed Demon with Victor Jr Intake.
Hooker Comp 6111 Ceramicoated Headers
Performance Distributor built for my motor specs.

From my research, the RPM heads flow 214cfm at .500/171cfm at .500 also.

Spali,

If your 347 is equipt with a single plane intake, and if it is around 9.5 compression, here is what I come up with on your combination.....
H T CH CT

2000.....139..............365 138.................361

2500.....173..............363 170.................356
3000.....219..............383 214.................374
3500.....271...............407 267..................401
4000.....324...............426 323..................423
4500.....376...............439 380..................444
5000.....422...............443 424..................445
5500.....452...............431 462..................441
6000.....469...............410 485..................421
6500.....457...............370 491..................396
7000.....445...............334 486..................365

Now here is the same with the only change being the cam to the S282 Solid Comp Magnum. This indicates that this cam may help you alittle also. This cam seems to be a very good ALL AROUND application...........Kevin

I'll be running a 10:1 compression. The reason why we chose the 270H cam is because I'm running a 5 speed manual. In 5th gear I should be running 1900-2000rpms and the 270 cam makes it power from 1800-5800rpms. 5th gear at 70mph will be right in the power band. If I go with a higher cam then I'll be slightly out of my powerband and the engine will most likely buck. From the #'s you posted........I'm showing 469HP/443TQ with the 270H Cam and the 282S is 491HP/445TQ........is that correct?? Thanks for doing that by the way. In 2 weeks I'll have the engine dynoed........curious if it comes close.
