rear end ratio ???

hello all,

I am getting a T5....
I have been asked to provide the rear end ratio, no idea what I have.
How can I check it? is there a tag somewhere? any tips on finding out exactly what I have?

thanks for your help
Stephane

Jack the car up, get the rear wheels off the ground. Manually turn the driveshaft and see how many revolutions it takes of the driveshaft to turn the back wheels one full rotation. Why do you need to provide a rear end ratio?

The only way to find the 'exact and precise' ratio if you have no tag is to remove the cover, and count the teeth on the ring gear, (or look for #'s stamped into the ring gear) and the teeth on the pinion gear, then divide the pinion # into the ring gear #.

But the other post before mine with turning the driveline is as close to the real and actual as you can get w/o getting messy.....

There is no cover for the pig, need to take the pig out to get to the gears, Seems to me that the ratio is on the vin plate or door jam

There are a bunch of bolts either holding a carrier in or a cover on. Should be a tag on one of them unless someone removed it, look for what would be left of a steel tag if someone kept bending it till it broke off.

Look for the specs on the VIN plate under axel , and I can check the ratio... Provided the car has the original ring and pinion gear

You could probably get a very good idea of your rear end ratio by knowing (meaasuring) your outside tire diameter and engine RPM at a certain speed in a certian gear. (I would check my engine RPM at 60mph in your 4th gear - I believe 4th gear is your 1:1 ratio in a T-5. Use the engine rpm calulator on this website (upper right corner in tech department homepage). Just keep changing the gear ratio until the other specs match up with your setup. That is about your gear ratio.
