coil spring compressor

I rented a spring compressor from autozone to take my front springs off. The tool has a fork that supports the upper coil with the screw going through it to the lower support with the the two swing away claps that go on the lower coil. I took one spring off, but for some reason I am nervous to use this tool to put the spring back on. Do you guys have any other tools that you could recommend? I only have one life and don't want to end it any time soon.

I've used that tool for years, no problems... & I do big block stuff [img]/phpBB/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif[/img]

do you leave the upper contol arm attached to the shock tower when you install the springs?
