Cylinder Head & Cam Advise Needed
You'll need more than ported stock heads to feed 393 cubic inches. Ported stock heads are barely enough for a mild 302... they won't be enough for an engine of your size trying to make power at 6500 rpm.
The cylinder heads are where the power is made. My advice is to start saving some more money for heads that are capable of feeding the beast.
Remember, you're feeding a 'big block' sized engine through small block cylinder heads. You've got to go big to do the engine justice.
The Victor Jr. heads from Edelbrock are also good and a little less expensive. The AFR 185's are really good as well, and should be plenty big, and less expensive than the 205's.
You'll need a Holley 950HP series carb, or something similar. These have a 750 sized carburetor body with an 850 base plate.... all streamlined for better flow. They provide the torque and velocity of a 750 and the top end of an 850. (They don't really flow 950cfm, it's just the name) BIGS can do you up a nice custom unit if you want to spend the $$$$$.
As for a cam, you'll want something around 240-245 @ 0.050" on the intake, maybe a little more on the exhaust... and around a 108-110 degree lobe seperation. Personally, I like solid lifter cams. You can build a nice custom unit from the Comp Cams line of Xtreme Energy solid lifter lobes.
As for an intake, either the Edelbrock Air-Gap or Victor Jr. would be my first choices.
Be SURE to have a FREE flowing exhaust on the car, or the engine's true potential will never be met.
Good Luck!
