toploader vs. BBF ?s

hey all, gettin ready to start the suspension rebuild on the stang, of course that is pretty straight forward, but, the next step after that is motor and trans, and thats where things are getting shakey. of course it will be BBF powered, most likely starting with a speedomotive "rolling thunder" 521 shortblock or something similar. my question is will any kind of factory Ford 4spd take the kind of torque a mill like that will put out(650+ft lbs)? or am i gonna be stuck with a Jericho or something like that if i wanna run a stick behind a mill such as that?
just trying to figure out my options.
thanks

Even the Nascar BB toploader might not be enough-
that's the one with the wrist-sized input shaft.
You may need to look at the Richmond trans. Those
are 450 ftlbs or so.

Viper Spec T56....They're holding up to 650ft lbs on modded Vipers with no problems....

The T56 is a "stock" tranny....Just not stock for your car. As far as oem equipped, yep, yer screwed with that kind of power output.

a built C6 would handle the power you project. check out performance automatic, they are fairly close to you so shipping shouldnt be too much of an issue.

My car has a 100% stock SMALL input/output toploader. It launches a 3300lb w/driver car to a best 60ft of 1.43 seconds. This is being launched WFO with the nitrous on.

You won't come close to testing a transmission's strength without slicks.

ANY transmission can be killed with abuse and poor driving. Treat it right, and it will treat you right.

A big in/out toploader should stand up to about anything.

Good Luck!

I run a big/in out Toploader in mine, they are strong boxes. BTW, sometime in August mine is coming out for a 5 speed, not due to any complaints with it, but because I am going with a TKO-600.

I cant give you a definite timeframe, but if you need a box, let me know. It wont be cheap, but its fresh and I'll be in VA Beach area by then
