I don't know of any cons but they are lighter.
Anytime you can reduce rotating mass, is always a plus.

Reducing rotating mass is 5 times more effective at freeing HP than removing static weight from the car.

My Formula has an alum. D/S. It used to have a steel one but GM had a bulletin re: vibrations at highway speeds or above and the fix was the alum. shaft. I never had this problem with the steel shaft but it's good to know the right people in the right places, know what I mean?

Mine is considerably lighter than the steel one and it is noticeable even when driving. If I was cruising on the highway and needed to let off the gas but not brake the car before with the steel shaft would slow down enough for me to not even need to touch the brake pedal, but with the alum. shaft the speed reduction is a lot less and usually I would need to tap the brakes slightly to get the car slowed down enough.

ALA you don't put major, major power through one they're as strong as the steel version. Another choice would be carbon fibre, even lighter but major $$$$$.
