Welding on axle or a better solution to axle pitting on seal area.

I'm guessing that welding on my axle is a no-no. I have some pitting where the seal is, I haven't tried jb-weld yet, but I think that I might here soon. Anyone have a good idea what I should do to cure this other than replace the axle.

It's in my Falcon. It's an 8" from a 74 Maverick. I might try the JB weld first since I have to pull my axles to fix a carrier issue. Might as well try the $4 solution first.

Cleaning the area good, etch if needed, and you should be good to go with the JB weld. There is a good chance of success so it is well worth the time to try.

You might be able to get high- or low-profile seals that move the seal area either in or out from the current area. That's what I would try, first.
